2006 has seen some big auto recalls… A recall of Altimas and Sentras was announced by Nissan last week. 96.800 vehicles were susceptible to engine fires due to excessive oil consumption. The defect caused up to 24 fires. They have been reported to the company. In May General Motors recalled units 31.000 Chevrolet Corvette. The reason was that there was mounting evidence that some roofs could come unglued at high speeds. The Japanese auto giant Toyota announced a recall of about 1000.000 vehicles at the end of May. They had faulty parts that could cause drivers to lose control of the steering wheel. But that was not all. On July 18 Toyota announced a recall of 418.570 vehicles worldwide for faulty engine parts. As for the latest recall, it affects about 150.000 cars sold outside of Japan. Toyota is no stranger to recalls. The company recalled more than 750.000 vehicles and every single 2006 Toyota model line from the Avalon to the Tundra has experienced some form of recall in May 2005. It seems that auto recalls are becoming a trend… The companies should think about their reputation.
