Volkswagen Markening developed the name Tiguan (there were four other variants: Nanuk, Namib, Rockton and Samun). The name was selected by the readers of the AutoBild group. More than 350 000 readers voted! Most of them voted for Tiguan. Travel, adventure and excitement are associated with the exotic sounding name.

The Tiguan combines both the transfer of the globally successful Touareg philosophy and the class of the compact SUV. This segment has grown very much for some years… Codenamed VW416, the car is riding on a PL/PQ48 platform - a combination of the Golf/Rabbit and Passat platforms - one which will be shared with Audi`s A4, A5 and Q5. The Tiguan characteristics are driving dynamics and high comfort levels. It suits urban environments and extremely bad roads. This car thus gives its driver absolute freedom.

The production will begin in Wolfsburg at the end of 2007…
