under rain.jpgIt’s beginning to rain. This is one of the most dangerous situations for drivers. It seems that the road is still dry and you can drive at the same speed and wih the same style of driving….When rain begins water drops, dust, dirt and other stuff (gas, oil) cover the road. This of course reduces tyre traction with the road. No need to say that this may lead to accidents.

First of all you should turn on windscreen wipers, lights and drive slower. Drive carefully! Pay attention to your speed. High speed is absolutely unnecessary. Most drivers understand it… Don’t stand out. It’s better to drive slowly but reach the place of your destination.

Brake smoothly. If you you push the brake pedal to the limit the car will probably slip. It’s preferable to brake with engine: you let the accelerator pedal go and then push the brake pedal, when the speed gets lower, push the clutch and shift the appropriate gear in or stop.

When driving on a wet road an aquaplane effect may appear. Some water remains under the tires of your car and a water cushion between the tires and the road appear. Your car doesn’t ride on the road, it swims! And it can easily swim away from the road. Remember that the faster you go the more water remains under tires. If you feel that your car swims, don’t worry. Just let the accelerator pedal go, don’t turn the wheel abruptly and push the brake pedal gently. As soon as you feel that your car has got back to the road, drop the brake pedal and continue driving.

Be careful while crossing any wet piece of the road. Avoid deep pools. You never know what there is under water. Besides if you drive into a pool at a full speed there is a possibility of serious damage of the bumper or cooler. Moreover, a wave of water may hit the engine and it will stop in the middle of a huge pool.

After you safely left wet part of the road push the break pedal several times. Water that gets to brake disks reduces the efficiency of braking very much. When you push the pedal the disks dry out.

Hopefully, these simple tips will help you to drive safely when it is raining.
