Wolfgang Bernhard (VW chief) has brought to life his promise to introduce 10 new VW autos by the end of the decade. One of these vehicles is a “new Scirocco,” a remake of the popular 1974-1992 coupe.

VW faces one significant difficulty: to separate the new Scirocco from Audi’s TT. The both cars use the same mechanical matrix, but it’s likely the VW will have more rear-seat space than the TT. Practicality was always a hallmark of the Scirocco line. The new Scirocco will posses 247 hp engine, narrow-angle V-6, DSG six-speed gearbox, and 4Motion all-wheel drive. It is going to run 155 mph and 0-to-60 mph in 6.0 seconds . The problem with roadsters is that theier sales do not always cover development costs. But VW is sure that “Scirocco” will sell more and cost a whole lot less to develop and tool. Though Bernd Pischetsrieder stated he wanted to build the vehicle, a more sober-minded Bernhard has applied the brakes. They say the final decision hasn’t been made yet. It’s good to know that Volkswagen decided to revive the Scirocco. I would love to own one. |
