The first impression of Smart is very similar to that when you see the things which belong to a baby for the first time. The same with the new Smart: everything is all right with the car, but like shoes for a baby it seems to be better a trinket rather than a car.

The company unveiled two novelties at the same time: Smart ForTwo and Smart Cabrio. It is hard not to compare the cars to the one the Flintstones possessed. Though we can continue that row forever: golf-cars etc.

The length of the car has been however increased by 19,5 cm and it now makes 270 cm. It won’t make parking harder but will definitely make the car more stable in turns. The body has faced lots of changes as well. It is very pleasant that the car became more harmonious and its shape looks more complete. And from the front end Smart looks almost like a “real” car. The optics of the car has been also changed significantly. The new Smart has a wider radiator bars.

If the car had been created by a serious designers with no hint of sense of humor, it would have become a total failure. But the composition of the central panel of the car proves the fact that the designers themselves laughed at their baby for more than once. Vinous and red insights of the car and sport-like seats try to make Smart look like serious luxurious cars.

The most ridiculous thing about the car is that it is equipped with practically all the latest systems: ABS, ESP, climate control, MP4 audio system and two safety bags. The capacity of the boot is 220 liters which can actually contain not more than a badminton racket.

But the engines for the car are quite a powerful. There are three variants of petrol engines with 61, 71 and 84 hp. It is essential that the manufacturer included a diesel engine into the line of engines. It has 45 hp. The total invasion of Smarts is expected in Europe in autumn 2007 and the cost of the car will be approximately 9 000 euro.
