The contest “European Car of the Year - 2007” ended up quite unexpectedly: the award was given not to one of the very popular compact hatchbacks, but a family mini van Ford S-Max. ![]() Nevertheless a compact hatchback occupied the second place. The new Opel Corsa got 233 points against 235 for Ford S-Max. The bronze went to Citroen C4 Picasso (222 points). You see two cars of the same class in the first three. It makes us think that a car of this class can become the triumpher of the contest next year.

The 4th place is occupied by Skoda Roomster (189 points). And the stylish Honda Civic and Fiat Grande Punto regardless of the expectations came as outsiders: the Japanese car took only the 5th position with 148 points and the Italian auto - the last 8th with 138 points.

In between Honda and Fiat there came two new hatchbacks: the 6th place is occupied by Peugeot 207 (144 points) and the 6th - Volvo C30 (141 points). For Ford this award has been the fifth in the history of the contest. The cars which won here are: Ford Escort (1981), Scorpio (1986), Mondeo (1994), Ford Focus (1999). Let’s congratulate Ford on this success and hope it won’t be the last cat to win at the “Car of the Year” contest.
