The struggle for the title of the fastest serial car in the world set in long ago among the producers of supercars. According to technical features, the leader is 1001 hp Bugatti Veyron, which can accelerate to 402 kmph. Auto Motor und Sport specialists decided to find out if it really was that way. They collected 9 sport cars to compare: Aston Martin Vanquish S, Chevrolet Corvette Z06, Dodge Viper SRT-10, Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, Ford GT, Lamborghini Murcielago LP 640, ???????? SLR McLaren, Porsche 911 Turbo and, of course, Bugatti Veyron.
Aston Martin Vanquish S
According to the producer’s official data, the car’s 6,0-litre 520 hp V12 engine can accelerate it to 322 kmph. The investigators managed to reach the speed of 317 kmph. And the acceleration from 0 to 100 took 4,8 seconds. To sum up, Aston Martin Vanquish S showed the worst features of all the 9 cars which participated in the test.
Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano
The 620 hp engine allows to accelerate Ferrari to 335 kmph (though the producer states the max speed is 330 kmph.). Acceleration from 0 to 100 takes 3,7 seconds.
Lamborghini Murcielago LP 640
Due to the 6,5-litre 640 hp V12 engine, the car accelerates from 0 to 100 in 3,4 seconds, and its max speed is 340 kmph (the same figure is depicted in the official data).
Porsche 911 Turbo
The most powerful turbo version of the legendary sport-coupe 911 is able to accelerate to 310 kmph, and it is one of the weakest results among the cars which participated in the test. But it should be mentioned that unlike the opponents the car is equipped with a 3,6-litre 480 hp engine. The acceleration from 0 to 100 takes 3,9 seconds.
Dodge Viper SRT-10
The only supercar in the test which wasn’t able to reach 300 kmph level. The investigators reached 298 kmph (the official data establish the max speed at 306 kmph). The acceleration from 0 to 100 takes 4,3 seconds.
Ford GT
330 kmph seems to be the highest speed which can develop the 5,4-litre 550 hp V8 engine. The acceleration from 0 to 100 takes 3,9 seconds.
Chevrolet Corvette Z06
The investigators didn’t manage to accelerate the car to the officially declared 319 kmph, the max speed of the car seems to be not more than 314 kmph. Nevertheless of official data about the acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph was confirmed - it is 3,9 seconds. The car is equipped with a 7-litre 512 hp V8 engine.
?ercedes SLR McLaren
In spite of the officially claimed max speed of 334 kmph, during the test the car reached only 324 kmph. With the 5,5-litre 626 hp V8 engine ?ercedes SLR McLaren accelerates from 0 to 100 in 3,8 seconds.
Bugatti Veyron 16.4
Bugatti didn’t let its reputation down - the max speed is really 402 kmph. Moreover the steady acceleration stops only at 380 kmph. The car is equipped with a fantastic 8,0-litre 16-cylinder 1001 hp engine with 4 turbo chargers, which allows to accelerate Bugatti from o to 100 kmph in 2,5 seconds.
