The American magazine Ward’s Auto has conducted the 13th annual contest “10 Best Engines awards”. The list is considered the most competent in the auto world. The list includes the brand new engines - Ford’s Duratec V6 3,5-litre, 6-cylinder BMW engine with a turbo charger and the 3,0-litre V6 turbo diesel by DaimlerChrysler.

Nissan has showed a kind of absolute record - the engine VQ DOHC V6 is the only engine which is included into the list every year since its premiere in 1995.

This year the Ward’s Auto experts were choosing among 33 engines. To be included in to the top 10, according to the rules of the contest, the engine must be produced in the USA and cost less than $ 54 000.

The Best Engines of the Year:

  1. Audi 2,0 DOHC I4 with a turbo charger (Audi A3)
  2. BMW 3,0 DOHC I6 (Z4 3.0si)
  3. BMW 3,0 ODHC I6 with a turbo charger (335i)
  4. DaimlerChrysler 3,0 DOHC V6 turbo diesel (Mercedes-Benz E320 Bluetec & Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD)
  5. DaimlerChrysler Hemi 5,7 JHV V8 (Chrysler 300C)
  6. Ford 3,5 Duratec DOHC V6 (Ford Edge & Lincoln MKX)
  7. Ford 4,6 SOHC V8 (Mustang GT & Mustang Shelby GT)
  8. Mazda 2,3 DISI turbocharged DOHC I4 (Mazdaspeed3)
  9. Nissan 3,5 DOHC V6 (Infinity G35)
  10. Toyota 3,5 DOHC V6 (Lexus IS 350)
