![]() Daimler Chrysler has announced a programme of R-Class restyling, which is planned to help the car become more popular in Europe and the U.S. The major changes will take place inside the car: in the interior and the engine line. The saloon will now have the possibility of carrying up to 7 passengers (the last row of seats can be easily folded), the central seat can be transformed into a comfortable elbow-rest. The exterior changes include the restyling of the front and rear end: new bumper design with in-built anti-fog lights. Moreover the company offers 18-inch alu-rims for V6 variant and 19-inch for R500 4matic. The engine line was added by the new R280 V6 engine with 231 hp which is able to accelerate the car from 0 to 100 lmph in 9.6 seconds. At the same time the average fuel consumption in 10.9 liters per 100 km. The top variant R500 got 5.5-liter V8 with 388 hp and 530 Nm of torque. The engine accelerates the vehicle from 0 to 100 in 6.1 seconds, and the max speed is 250 kmph. The average fuel consumption is 12.9 liters per 100 km.

The company removed R 63 AMG from the model line because it was a complete commercial failure. The new R-Class is even more attractive owing to the number of models (R280 CDI, R280 and R350) are back wheel driven. The price range varies from euro 46 707 for R280 to euro 70 864 for R 500 4Matic.
