The history of the company “Jaguar Cars Ltd.” starts from the 20s of the previous century. In 1922 Sir Lyons William and his partner Sir Walmsley William founded the company Swallow Sidecar (SS) in the northern seaside town Blackpool.

From the beginning the company specialized on the production of motorcycle buddy seats. The stylish Swallow seats soon got the recognition of car owners. The companions decided to move to a new sphere of production. They went on to produce auto bodies.

The first achievement of the company was the design of the car Austin 7 owing to which the company got the order for 500 bodies. The received money and the increased reputation enabled SS to establish its mane on the automotive market in the body niche. Later on the company created bodies for Fiat, Morris, Swift, Standart and Wolseley.

In 1931 in light of the production growth the company moved from Blackpool to Coventry. William Lyons starts creating his own cars. Having a special interest in 2-seat sports automobiles the company is a great success at the motor show in London. The model SS1 (the chassis and the interior design was created by Lyons) was named the best SS sport model. From the long list of the animals embodying speed and power in collaboration with beauty and grace Lyons has chose Jaguar. The model SS1 was a prototype of the forthcoming cabrio SS 1 Tourer, which is actually the first real sport car by Jaguar.

At the beginning of the 40s the production of the cars on the Jaguar plant was stopped due to the beginning of WWII. All the automotive producers including Jaguar took part in the fulfillment of the war government orders.

The year 1948 saw the re-launch of the automotive production. The company SS changes its name to Jaguar Cars Ltd and it starts the development of the revolutionary 2- and afterward 4-cylinder Jaguar engine. The new series of the company’s cars got the name “X” (stands for “experimental”) later known as XK.

In 1948 the car once again received standing ovation at the London auto show. The audience appreciated the brand new Jaguar XK120. The car was equipped with a 105-hp Heynes engine. The car could easily accelerate to 126 k.p.h. and was named the fastest serial automobile.
