When it is hot outside, it is extremely easy to tell which cars are equipped with conditioners and which are not. Still, not all the drivers know how to choose one and take care of it properly.

Another question: whether it should be installed at all.

Before buying a conditioner, one should consider all the pros and cons. The obvious and the major advantage of a conditioner in an automobile is the possibility of cooling the interior which will ensure comfortable driving. The modern devices not only regulate the temperature, but also keep an eye on the clarity and the air circulation.

Still, the device which at first sight seems simply irreplaceable has a number of cons. Thus, when a car is equipped with a conditioner its power is decreases by 7-10 hp and the fuel consumption increases by 0.5-0.8 liters. Moreover, a number of additional parts will be installed under the cowling of your car, which, in its turn, adds to the possibility of overheating.

The accusations that cooling systems are dangerous for health are only partly true. For instance, drivers themselves are more often guilty of catching a cold: the majority of them turn the systems to a full power when they are dressed as in summer.

The real scourge for automobilists is some bacteria that settle on evaporators and cause heavy pneumonia. Such a disease is spread among middle aged and elderly people with the decreased immunity and smokers. Coping with the disease the manufacturers install special filters and conduct antiseptic processing of the evaporator’s surface.

If a car is equipped with only a conditioner, it cools the whole lot. That’s why, you’d better install climate-control which will automatically support the target air temperature of the interior.

There are two ways a conditioner may appear in a car: if you buy a car where it is already present; or you go to a company that specializes in installing and service of cooling systems. The majority of car models come with a conditioner as a basic feature (for instance, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Audi, Volvo, Peugeot and Mazda)
