The words “fit” and “racing car” seldom come into one sentence - and even if it happens, the readers scratch their heads with a puzzled look.

The car Honda Fit appeared on the Japanese market in 2001 and was aimed at the people between 40 and 50.

The first company to make an attempt to turn Honda Fit into a racing car was Spoon Sports in collaboration with Opak Racing. The goal of the company was the participation of Fit in “25 Hours of Thunderhill” where the durability of both the driver and the car are tested.

The collaboration turned out to be quite a successful one. In 2004 the car was on for 25 hours, and in 2005 took the seconds place in its class. The king of drifting himself, having driven in the car on the track Ebisu Circuit pointed out its lightness (just over 800 kg) and brilliant maneuverability in turns.

From the home town of Opak Racing San-Bruno, CA, the car was sent to ASpec Products in Al-Monte. The company is the official representative of Spoon in South California. ASpec have used the car for the purpose of promoting Honda Fit and Spoon. The car is painted yellow-blue and has been recently shown at the show GT Live in Phoenix, Arizona.

The tuning process took 4 months. All the unnecessary parts were thrown out of the car: air-conditioning system, seats, soundproof material. From that time on the major parts of the interior was the Kevlar racing seat by Spoon with Takata safety belts. The steering-wheel and suspension was replaced by Spoon analogs.

The automatic transmission has been replaced by a 5-gear mechanic. In order to enhance to body stiffness, Spoon has designed a special safety skeleton. The fuel tank and pump have been installed in the rear part of the car – for easier access during races.

The creators of the car focused on weight reduction and body stiffness increase, still another important issue was the suspension. The car was equipped with Spoon absorbers with Swift springs. Endless brake plates replaced the basic components. The wheels – classic SW388 by Spoon, 15×6 inch, the tires – Advan 205/50/15.

The engine and suspension have been changed only slightly in order to keep the requirements of the class. The filling of the 1.5-liter L15 engine is almost the same with only exhaust and admission by Spoon. The “brain” of the car is MoTeC system which controls all the crucial parameters of the engine work. The car has 115 hp and 149 Nm of torque.

The figures seem ridiculous! Still, it is better to drive fast on a slow car than slow on a fast one!
