In Detroit the company Audi has officially released its new diesel monster in the shape of the ultimate conceptcar Audi R8 TDI V12 with a 500-hp engine (1000 Nm).

If there is an official premiere there will be serial production. We only can guess when.

500 hp – Wow! The modernized V12 TDI power unit with the system Common Rail and double supercharging system is very close to the engine of the Le-Mans champion – Audi R10. The unit enable the novelty to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds and the max speed is 300 km/h. Moreover, it should be mentioned that the power unit of the novelty matches all the latest environmental requirements (Euro 6), which is to appear in Europe only in 2014.

As for the power train, Audi engineers decided on the 6-grade mechanic which transfers the power to the 4WD system distributing it according to the formula 40/60 – 40% for the front axis, 60% - for the rear one.

The novelty is equipped with “heavy” dynamic devices: a modernized chassis, high performance braking system (with extra-durable and light braking plates made of ceramics) and, of course, modest aero-kit that includes a front spoiler, huge rear anti-wing and a specific run-out.

The body, as it used to be, is full-aluminum. In addition to that Audi’s engineers have been able to equip R8 with a glass top, glass engine boot cover, increase the channels and trim everything with carbon – the monster is ready!

The interior has been only slightly changed. The modified additions include some motorsport features. For instance, the car is equipped with a special switch (right on the steering-wheel) with the function “Drive-Select” which enables to switch between the available dynamic modes (Dynamic, Sport, Race). Another peculiar addition is that in the “Race” mode the device lightning changes from white to bright-red. Moreover, the interior is equipped with a leather sports steering-wheel with alu-insertions, sports seats with multiple insertions of carbon and aluminum.
