Right before the New Year the first photos of the restyled Mercedes-Benz CLS leaked into the press. Now not only the official photos are available but also all the technical data. The restyled CLS has a new radiator grille, new rear end with restyled rear lights, trapeziform exhaust pipes, new side mirrors and new light-alloy rims (17-inch for CLS 280, 320 CDI and 350; 18-inch for CLS 63 AMG).

The most accessible model is CLS 280 with V6 231-hp power unit. Further on the list: CLS 320 CDI (V6 diesel with 224 hp), CLS 350 CGI (V6 with 292 hp) and CLS 500 (V8 with 388 hp). The most expensive top variant is CLS 63 AMG. It is equipped with 6.3-liter V8 engine with 514 hp. All the models are equipped with the 7-grade automatic 7G-Tronic transmission (the AMG version - AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic). The interior of the car now features a new three-spoke steering wheel, pseudo-wood insertions, a restyled central panel. The prices on the new cars start from 55 692 euro (CLS 280) and end at 106 624 euro (CLS 63 AMG).

VW showed the racing at the International Autosport show in Birmingham. The new car will take part in its first races at Volkswagen Racing Cup in Alton-Park. The average road Jetta with 1.4-liter TSI develops 170 hp. Such serious figures are enabled by a compressor and turbine. On low and medium turns the engine is assisted by a mechanical compressor, on high turns – by a turbo supercharger. Nevertheless, Volkswagen Racing UK’s engineers decided it was not enough, so in collaboration with the experts from Superchips, Milltek Sport and Turbo Dynamics they increased the power of the engine to 230 hp. This increased power in transmitted to the font wheels with the help of a 6-grade mechanic transmission.

The interior features nothing of the average Jetta. In order to reduce weight of the car it was deprived of everything excess. All the trimming has been thrown away alongside the “button luxury”. The traditional seats have been replaced by sports Recaro variants. The steering wheel has been replaced as well. The remained standard equipment is the combination of devices. In accordance to the FIA requirements the interior features a safety cage.
