As I’ve already mentioned recently the Swedish company Saab is planning to attract new customers. That’s why the company is releasing in Detroit the prototype of the forthcoming SUV Saab 9-4X. The car is equipped with the BioPower bio-diesel. As Saab is part of GMC it is natural to expect (due to the current tendency of unification) that the car will be very similar to other cars of the segment made by the companies included into the concern.
Audi will show the sport S-series of its cult coupe TT. Audi S6 and S5 show great sport results, and the new Audi TT-S is planned to be a match for these cars. The exterior of coupes and convertibles TT-S is more aggressive than that of TT. The most significant changes are the front ones: through huge air-intakes the more powerful engine gets more air. Moreover, the rear wing and the interior of the car have been changed. “S” stands for sport in the new addition of the car, and this is justified by the installed engine. The 2.0-liter turbo-diesel with 272 hp and Quattro 4WD will be able to take the shine out of BMW Z4M or even Porsche Cayman. A Korean manufacturer makes the first attempt to lead a rear-driven lux-sedan on an offshore market. In Detroit Hyundai will show Genesis. The design of the novelty (traditionally) includes all the best and reliable solutions made up by the leaders of the segment from Lexus to Infiniti. Genesis will be packaged with three engines including 3.3-liter and 3.8-liter with 264 hp and 290 hp accordingly. The top variant will be V8 4.6-liter with 368 hp. The latter engine will get the modern automatic 6-ZF transmission. And all of this at the price that will be lower than $30 000 – in the US the cost of Korean cars ids the major advantage over their cometitors.
The real pearl of the show might become the concept Ford Explorer America. The company is working on the design of the forthcoming middle-size SUVs. At the moment Ford Explorer is quite popular in the US and during the best years the sales figures reached 400 000 cars a year. Ford concept is the first hint on the future of the model. The major proportions and the size are very close to the existing model, but all the parts are made in the modern style. This is the way the modern auto manufacturing is moving forward. And if the new generation of Explorer will borrow the concept’s design than it is definitely going to be successful.
Right before the show Cadillac shone some light on its new concept. The model Cadillac Provoq will hardly be a prototype of a new model, it is more of a demonstration that in the near future big and luxurious SUVs will be as harmless as butterflies. Provoq is built around the 5th generation of GM’s fuel elements in collaboration with Li-Ion battery. Electric energy is used to power the 70-kW engine that moves the front wheels and 2 40-kW engines for the rear ones. As other cars that work on the fuel cells ?-Flex (Chevrolet Volt), Provoq can drive on batteries only. The reserve of the batteries is 32 km. 6 kg of pressed hydrogen which is preserved in two tank will enable the car to get over the impressing 480 km. Drivers Select GMC: Saab New Model
